Vital Statistics is the area of issuing marriage licenses, and the recording of birth and death certificates and issuing certified copies of the same. The County Clerk is closely supported by the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Texas Department of Health in Austin.

In 1987, the legislature closed birth and death records to public inspection and placed them under control of the Department of Health or local registration officials.
Birth and death records maintained by the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Texas Department of  Health or by local registration official are closed to public inspection, except that:

    A) a birth record is public information and available to the public on and after the 75'th anniversary of the date of birth as shown on the record filed with the Bureau of Vital Statistics or local registration official;
    B) a death record is public information and available to the public on and after the 25'th anniversary of the date of death as shown on record filed with the Bureau of Vital Statistics or local registration official.

In the Vital Statistics section, you may obtain your birth certificate if you were born anywhere in the State of Texas, and the Bureau of Vital Statistics has it on record.
