Controlled Burning
Burn Ban Lifted
Hood County Judge Darrell Cockerham temporarily lifted the burn ban on December 28, 2012. Conditions may change quickly, so please burn with caution. Contact the fire marshal's office at (817) 579-3335 for questions.
Restrictions
- Only dry plant growth generated on the burn site can be burned.
- You cannot burn within 300 feet of a residential, recreational, commercial, or industrial area that is not located on the property where the burning is occurring.
The following prohibited materials cannot be burned:
- Electrical Insulation
- Treated lumber
- Plastics
- Non-wood construction/ demolition materials
- Petroleum products

- Asphaltic materials
- Potentially explosive materials
- Chemical wastes
- Items containing natural or synthetic rubber
- Household trash/ garbage/ refuse

- Burning must be done no earlier than one hour after sunrise or later than one hour before sunset
- Burning can only be done at a time when the wind speed is either greater than 6 mph and less than 26 mph
Effective September 1, 2009, violation of the above can be classified up to a Class "A" misdemeanor and could result in fines, confinement, or both.

To notify the fire marshal's office of a controlled burn, please complete the
Burn Notification Form. This is a notification only, not an approval. You will receive a verification number when your information is received.
If you have items you need to dispose of that cannot be burned, you may be able to take them to the Hood County Citizens Collection Station. View
