A.T. Vines has been the administrative captain for the sheriff's office since January 2005. Captain Vines is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Administration (MPA). Additionally, he holds a Master Peace Officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).
Captain Vines is a U.S. Marine veteran with combat duty in Vietnam from 1964 to 1967. After his last assignment serving with the Marine Fifth Reconnaissance Battalion, he was honorably discharged in February 1967. Later that year, Vines graduated from the Corpus Christi Texas Police Academy, went to work for the Corpus Christi Police Department, and was assigned to patrol. He later served several other agencies, working in narcotics, patrol, and criminal investigations. He served a term elected as constable in Hill County, Texas, and as a court-appointed investigator for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals investigating death penalty cases on final appeal.
Since joining the Hood County sheriff's office, he has had oversight of the Criminal Investigations Division, Civil / Warrants and Transport Division, Property / Evidence, Disciplinary Review Board, Animal Control, School Resource Officers (SROs), Commissary, Clerical Support Division, two road crews, and is the founder and chair of both the Hood County Bail Bond Board and the Hood County Dispatch Board Inc.
